This past Friday, as the 3 train slowly emptied out as it neared Crown Heights, two Bochurim returning from a long day of Mivtzoim suddenly realized that they were alone in the cart with three African-Americans of threatening demeanor.
As the Bochurim were weighing their options, they were approached by two of the thugs, who after drawing a knife, demanded the Bochurim hand over their Tefillin and the mp3 player that one of them possessed.
Just as this was transpiring, the train reached a station. The thugs, taking advantage of the moment, took hold of the Bochurim’s possessions and quickly exited the train, fleeing towards the station’s exit.
The Bochurim quickly recovered from the shock, and began pursuing the thugs while yelling for police.
Just as they were exiting the station, by divine providence, a police patrol car was passing that exact location. The police, realizing what was going on, immediately joined the chase and apprehended the thieves, returning the stolen objects to their rightful owners.
Just then is when the story takes an interesting twist. It turned out that one of the officers was Jewish, and after some persuasion donned the very pair of Tefillin he just helped retrieve.
