A New York woman has died from injuries sustained Tuesday when her car crossed the center lane and struck a tractor trailer truck near the entrance to the Mount Washington Hotel, according to state police.
U.S. Route 302 was closed for several hours following the accident just before 2 p.m. The driver of the truck, Patrick Sherman, 39, of Waterbury, Vt., escaped injury though his truck erupted in flames.
Investigators say eyewitnesses reported that the truck was headed westbound on Route 302 when a Honda Civic crossed the centerline and nearly collided with another vehicle ahead of the truck.
That vehicle and the truck swerved off the road in an attempt to avoid the Civic.
The woman was taken to Littleton Regional Hospital, where she died later as a result of her injuries, according to state police.
