A chase after a stolen car near the settlement of Ofra ended in a lethal accident Thursday morning. The driver of the stolen vehicle, who was trying to flee police on his trail, committed a serious traffic violation and hit a motorcyclist, leaving him dead.

An initial police investigation revealed that a Binyamin district officer spotted a suspicious vehicle driving near Shaar Binyamin. The officer followed the stolen vehicle, and its driver, a Palestinian, began driving recklessly and made a U-turn and hit the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.

Police managed to catch up with the car and arrested the driver. Another Palestinian car theft was also arrested in the bust.

Yoni Harel, a Magen David Adom Paramedic arriving at the scene of the accident, said, “The motorcyclist was driving in the direction of Ofra and was hit head-on by a vehicle. When we arrived at the scene we had no choice but to pronounce him dead. He was injured in his head.

“The motorcycle was lying on the side of the street and the driver was thrown 50 meters from the vehicle it hit.”
