Anti-Jewish Letter sent to Scarsdale Temple President

June 20, 2010

A 10-page anti-Jewish letter sent to the president of a Scarsdale synagogue is being investigated by village police as a bias-related incident.

Scarsdale Detective Lt. Bryant G. Clark said that two other Jewish residents of the village received the same letter recently with “nonsensical biblical rantings” that Ellen Plum-Rosenberg, the president of the Scarsdale Synagogue Scarsdale Synagogue Temples Tremont and Emanu-El, was sent.

Clark said the police contacted the Westchester County District Attorney’s Bias Unit about the letters, which apparently were sent from New York City. No specific threats were made in the letters.

Plum-Rosenberg received the letter at the synagogue about a week ago.
She told The Journal News she did not feel “personally threatened” but took the incident seriously because of its anti-Jewish nature.

Last March, Plum-Rosenberg found anti-Semitic fliers near her Scarsdale home.
It is not known if the two incidents have any connection.
